5 Free AI Note-Taking Apps That Don't Suck

These apps could save you 20-minutes each day in note-taking admin. Time to upgrade your daily notes.

Recently, I wrote a piece on AI note-taking apps. It went down a treat!

The conversation about these AI apps is continuing to grow.

Let’s explore 5 of them that I picked and how they could help:

1. Granola

Granola is a meeting tool for macOS users. It transcribes meetings automatically using AI and turns any of your notes you’ve taken alongside into a structured note that you can then ask AI questions on. It is free for up to 25 meetings and works with everything as it records from the device.

2. Mem

Mem started as a promising note-taking app that innovated with AI. Then, suddenly, they lost their first-mover advantage when AI kicked off. I’m an investor in Mem, and even I was pained.

They are set to return in late 2024 with their 2.0 version, but many still consider them the note-taking app that best embeds AI with chats, intelligent note recommendations, and more.

Who said AI apps had to be new to the market? GoodNotes, the stylus-focused note-taking app popular on iPad, now adds AI (at least in Apple versions of the app) that allows you to take notes using your handwriting style, correcting errors you make as you write. It comes at a reasonable price of $9.99 per year, a gem for iPad lovers.

Reflect Notes is another AI note-taking app that, like Mem, has been praised for its AI approaches. Recently, it has been focusing on bringing AI into its instant note transcription, which is perfect for faster note-taking.

However, Reflect goes one step further by presenting the E2E note-taking experience. Reflect isn’t free; it will set you back $10 per month (annually priced), but it is secure and invests more into helpful AI note-taking and new features.

This used to be known as the ideal tool for reducing noise in the background of meetings. Still, they’ve combined this with AI note-taking for meetings, and much like Granola, it’ll allow you to manage meetings better and have high-quality technology for noise-free meetings, all housed into one base. Krisp is an exciting extension for desktop users.

Use case: Freelancers

Why would a freelancer use AI note-taking tools?

For small administrative tasks, it will save time.

Think, "How long does it take me to make meeting notes and craft a list of actions after the meeting?" The answer is probably around 20 minutes.

For a self-employed freelancer, that could be worth £50-100 or more of their time.

For situations like this, AI can help evolve how you spend time.
